VE Memory Scrap Book
Paget High School has successfully been awarded a grant from Awards for All, a subsidiary of the National Lottery to investigate the impact of World War2 on the town’s residents. The Project titled
“Put the Kettle on! Enjoy a VE Moment” celebrates the impact of victory in Europe with a community festival at the High School in Branston.
The funding has been used to film and interview local residents of all ages on their memories of the town since the end of WW2, looking at the changing population, attitudes towards one another and what it are to be British and a Burtonian. These interactions to produce a learning resource on Britishness, the art of integration and tolerance to be disseminated to primary and secondary schools in the East Staffordshire area.
Events that have taken place are: Cream Tea with local residents, Dig for Victory on the Community farm weekends throughout May, June & July, Make do and Mend workshop/family learning session, assemblies in local schools, land use fieldwork with local primary schools.
The project culminates in a community festival celebrating everything that is Burton.
